Victims and Survivors of Crime week was May 12 to 18 this year. We are honoured to showcase the ways we utilized this week to raise awareness of crime and its impact in our community, specifically when it comes to family violence. On November 23, The Today Centre hosted our 3rd Annual Help Today, Hope Tomorrow Fundraising Breakfast at Delta Hotels by Marriott Edmonton Centre Suites. The theme for this year’s breakfast was ‘Disrupting the Stigma’, focusing on how we can and why we should, disrupt our perceptions and assumptions about the realities of what it looks like to be a victim-survivor of family violence, especially after leaving the situation.

The holidays can often be a difficult time for many experiencing family violence. There’s lots of time spent with an abuser, many services for help are closed, and many individuals may choose to wait until after the holidays to seek help or leave a dangerous situation in fear of “ruining the holidays” for young ones. At The Today Centre we mourn with those who spend the holidays afraid, anxious, and uncertain.
